Brainsport Times June. 20, 2018
We're coming into a few exciting days of events at the store, starting with the launch of On's Cloudace tomorrow evening! Then on Saturday morning, we have the Brainsport Coach's Summit, followed by the Broadway Fit Fest in the afternoon. Check out the details for Saturday's happenings in the "Upcoming Events" section of the Times!
Our Q&A this week is with On's Chris Bilick. Chris is going to give us the scoop on the launch of the Cloudace and how you can take part in On's Global Relay Run!
Chris Bilick
Tara: On Thursday evening Brainsport will be taking part in the launch of On's latest innovation - the Cloudace, which is being launched in a unique fashion with On's Global Relay Run. Would you tell us more about what the Global Relay Run is and how it works?
Chris: In just under years, On has become a truly global brand. With a presence in over 50 countries, On has headquarters in Zurich, Portland, Yokohama, Melbourne, São Paulo, and even more to come in 2018. To celebrate and demonstrate its growing global reach and to test the launch of its all-new running shoe the Cloudace, On is running around the world in 24 hours.
From the Samoan Islands to the Aloha state, On will be running with and telling stories from communities in every single time zone. Catch the Exchange and Empower Team in Kathmandu, Nepal as they pass the virtual baton to the women of Free to Run in Kabul, Afghanistan. Run with the women of the Riyadh Urban Runners as they wave hello to Olivier Bernhard in On's hometown of Zurich, Switzerland. Follow along live as Anchorage local Tiffany Hall "hands-off" to elite athlete Jane Fardell while she runs in an airplane flying over UTC-9, quite literally running on clouds.
Seriously, The World's Longest Relay Run will kick off at 6:30 p.m. in Apia, Samoa, with each run passing the virtual baton to the next time zone after one hour. After 24 hours of running, the relay will finish in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
Brainsport will be participating in the global relay for the UTC-6 time zone. Sign up for the event here.
On will be posting live updates and telling the stories of all our runners around the world online (on-running.com/seriouslyace) and on social media (@on_running). Want to join in on the fun? Start your run at 6:30 p.m. wherever you are and hashtag #seriouslyace to participate in this global relay! Photo Supplied
Tara: What makes the Cloudace a great fit for the more serious runners? Or is it too restrictive to say this is a shoe meant only for those who are competitive runners?
Chris: Well, serious is a very subjective term. This is the first shoe from us to combine both of On's patented outsoles, Zero-Gravity Foam in the heel and Rebound Rubber in the forefoot. Super-soft, precision-molded 3D heel pads hold the foot snugly in place, while maximum support is delivered via an external heel counter along with a technical mesh designed to both vent the forefoot and provide added stability where it's needed. The extra-wide Speedboard stabilizes the foot throughout each phase of the run motion while also propelling push-off which provides an ultra-soft landing zone; midfoot supported by a natural transition zone designed to evenly distribute pressure; trademark propulsion delivers a responsive push.
We would say it’s for the demanding runner who seeks full comfort and protection. I think it is too restrictive to say it is just for competitive runners but we need to be reminded superior cushioning doesn't have to mean slow.

Tara: On Thursday people will be able to test run the Cloudace. This will make them some of the first potential customers to try the shoe, correct? What is On's hope in having people test the shoe out?
Chris: Yes, runner's showing up Thursday night will be among the first in the world to test run this revolutionary new shoe from On. Our hope, and what we have come to learn, is that when you try On...you run On. The proof is in the ride, come try one on and you'll be hooked!
